Revenue Stamps are stamps that are affixed to documents, spirits, stock
certificates, playing cards, tobacco, etc. to show that the required government
tax has been paid. The revenue stamp illustrated on the left was issued from
1862 to 1871 in various formats to cover the tax on conveyance, entry
of goods, foreign exchange, inland exchange, lease, life insurance,
manifest, mortgage, power of attorney, etc. |
